First Time Swinging

One of the gifts we received for Owen before he was born was a swing. When he was here in December, Owen's grandfather attached hooks to our pergola so we could put Owen's swing up. Now that the weather is nice and Owen is big enough, we thought we would give the swing a try. He loved swinging, he had the biggest smile the whole time and laughed and giggled.

Ear Infection

At the end of April Owen's daycare lady called one morning to tell me that he was throwing up. I took him to the pediatrician to have her check is congestion and the vomiting. She said the congestion sounded normal but looked in the first year and said, it was infected and he would have spiked a fever that night. She peeked in the other side and said that one was on it's way to infected and would have been within a few days. We swung by the pharmacy for some ear drops for the pain and some bright pink, bubble gum flavored antibiotic.

At the doctor's office Owen had a three point blow-out and having picked him up straight from daycare I didn't have a spare change of clothes with me so he had to go home in only a diaper. The poor little guy really didn't feel well and passed out right after we got home, before I got to put clothes on him, and slept all afternoon.

A few pictures of the sick little guy with his first, of what I'm sure will be many, ear infections.

Owen Turned 5 Months Old

Another month older and another month bigger, happy 5-month birthday Owen!

Owen a few days after his birthday.

No pediatrician appointment this month so no weight and length updates but we know he is growing since his clothes are getting snuger.

Patiently (for once) waiting for dinner to be served.

I couldn't resist snapping this picture. We were running around getting ready for the day and as usual, I plopped Owen down, made sure everything was out of reach and gave him a toy to entertain him for a few minutes. I looked over and realized he looked like one other thing dropped on the table with all the other "stuff."

The "twins" sleeping in the same way in bed.

Owen is such a busy little boy, he is always trying to figure out how things work and exploring the world around him. Owen loves to watch the fish tank and will stare at it for long (for a busy baby) periods of time.

One day Owen and Jed were playing around and Jed decided to put Owen on his shoulders, he LOVED it!

This got a big smile and a laugh.

All smiles, enjoying the ride.

So tired after dinner he couldn't wait until bed.

Owen is such a big strong boy and doing so much. In addition to holding his bottle and starting on solid foods, since his 4 month birthday Owen started spinning the wheel on his ExerSaucer to watch the pictures move, has really started jumping in the Johnny Jump Up, and laughed for the first time. He is also working on sitting up (he can do it for brief moments before tipping over) and pushing up. He loves to be on his tummy and spends lots of time there working on his muscles.

Happy Easter

Happy Belated Easter! We had an excellent first Easter with Owen. He seemed to have a good time although I'm sure he won't even remember.

We started out the day with church where Owen slept through most of the service, but we won't tell the pastor. Then it was off to the Tommy and Esther Harrison's for our first year at the annual "Easter at Esther's."

The Harrison's are such generous people! Even though they had never met us (we are friends with their daughter-in-law) they welcomed us like family and insisted we return next year. Not only are they generous, but boy do they know how to celebrate! Everybody brought a covered dish to share. All the food combined was set out over four 6-foot banquet tables. And boy was the food GOOD!

After dinner was an egg hunt for all the kids. They have a great yard with a perfect separate area for an egg hunt. Wisely, the kids were divided into ages groups. Of course, Owen went in the first group, the 0-3 year olds.

Owen was a good sport for the egg hunt but wasn't sure what he was supposed to be doing and was often more interested in leaves than the eggs.

One of the other neat things the Harrison's do is every year each child gets a stuffed bunny to take home with them. So after lunch and the egg hunt we picked out Owen's bunny, hung out, ate some more, watched the other kids hunt for eggs, and visited. To no surprise, Owen couldn't keep his eyes open any longer.

Even though we got home mid-afternoon and he had already taken one nap, Owen was one beat baby and slept most of the day.

Owen's Big Day

On the day of Owen's 4-month well child check-up (just under a week after his four month birthday) he hit two milestones, rolling over and holding his own bottle. He rolled over first, early in the day,he while we were at the pediatrician's office. She had him on the exam table laying on his back and while she was out of the room worked and worked and all of a sudden he flipped over onto his tummy. Owen had been getting so close to rolling from his back to his tummy for some time and all he had to do was kick his last leg over. (He didn't roll from front to back for about another month.)

Owen's second milestone came that evening when he held his own bottle (for the most part). He had been trying for a little while and this time Jed helped him get his hands in alignment and he is such a strong boy that he has not problem supporting it but needed a little help getting the bottle tipped in the right position.

Solid Foods

At Owen's 4-month check-up he got the go ahead to start on solid foods since he has gained enough weight and was drinking enough milk.

Owen's first few bites of rice cereal.

He started out with rice cereal and seemed to enjoy it the first time although he wasn't too sure what to think about the consistency.

Taking a break between bites.

Not too sure what to do with his hands.

It defiantly took him a bit to figure out what to do with it once it was in his mouth but didn't make too much of a mess for his first time.

Only a little messy after the first meal.

Two weeks after Owen started on rice cereal he also got fruits and veggies. He started out with "1st foods" which included applesauce, bananas, carrots, green beans, peaches, pears, peas, prunes, squash, and sweet potatoes. Bananas and carrots were by far his favorite and he DID NOT LIKE squash. Owen really likes the different tastes and with all of the fruits and veggies (except squash), he gets really mad when they are gone.

Our little messy eater VERY mad the yummy carrots are all gone.
