Travelin' Baby

Just before Owen's 3 month birthday he took his first road trip. The three of us took the 4 hour drive up to Atlanta for the weekend so I could attend the Alpha Delta Pi District I Leadership Conference as a chapter adviser. We left Tallahassee on Friday afternoon and came back on Sunday afternoon but by the amount of "stuff" we brought you would have thought we were going to be gone a week.

Owen did pretty good on the car ride. He slept on and off the whole way and only got a little about 30 minutes before it was time to eat but as soon as I got in the back with him he was fine. I think he just got lonely.

He also did great in the hotel, sleeping in his Pack N' Play, which is quite a challenge considering all the noisy college girls running around till the wee hours. It is difficult for even the most well trained adult to sleep through that but he was a champ.

The happy kid on the car ride north.

Owen Turned 3 Months Old

I know this is a month behind but Happy Belated Birthday Owen!

Owen two days after his 3 month birthday.

Before Owen's birthday we hit a very major milestone... Owen slept through the night for the first time. To this day he does not consistently sleep through the night but every now and then we wake up and realize it is 6 am and time to get up. However, he no longer eats at night.

At three months we are amazed by all Owen has accomplish. He is able to bring his hands together, hold and shake a rattle and pass the rattle from one hand to the other. He is also able to blow raspberries and Jed finds it hilarious that he does it while nursing.

We have had a wonderful three months enjoying everything about Owen. It has been so fun to watch him learn and grow and his personality really develop. We look forward to what the next three month have in store.

Tummy Tub

One of the gifts we got for Owen was a Tummy Tub, a bathtub that is supposed to simulate being in the womb. Since Owen now does a good job of holding his head up on his own, we gave him a bath in the Tummy Tub last night. Just like every other bath, he LOVED it! He likes to stand up as it is so the added buoyancy of the water was like heaven to him. He would kick off the bottom and splash water out all over and get his big grin.

Happy 2 Month Birthday Owen!

Last Sunday we celebrated Owen's 2 Month Birthday. We have come so far in two months and he has grown so much. Our little boy is amazing us every day!

Owen on his 2 month birthday

Owen is now holding his head up very well on his own when being held upright and when on his tummy he can lift his head and hold it up. He can sit up in a corner of the couch and can stabilize his body very well. He can also stand up with help, working those chunky legs. He is such a strong little boy but we knew he would be based on his grip the day he was born.

He is frequently sucking on his fists on his own and sometimes chooses them over the pacifier or spits the pacifier out to suck on them. Two days after his birthday he was able to bring his hands together and interact them with each other.

Owen started Day Care the week before his birthday and does really well there. She loves him and he is always in such a good mood when we pick him up. He is recognizing voices and when Jed picks him up he will stop what he is doing, spit out the pacifier (if he has it in) and starts looking around the minute he hears Jed's voice. He has also recently spent his first night with a babysitter while we went out without him. He was very happy and did great and didn't cry until he got tired. He went right to bed for her. We weren't worried but are glad it went well, we planning on going out without him again.

On his birthday Jed was trimming Owen's nails while he was sleeping and it woke Owen up. Owen apparently did not like what his Dad was doing because he got MAD at him. He fussed a little but didn't really cry. The funniest thing was that he would NOT look at Jed for several hours after that. Every time Jed would look at Owen face-to-face, Owen would turn his head and look the opposite direction. We were both laughing hysterically, his personality is really starting to blossom.

On Wednesday we went to the pediatrician for Owen's 2 month check up. She said he is doing great and looks good. He weighed 15 lbs 4 oz and was 24.25 inches long. His weight puts him in the 98th percentile for weight and 95th for length but we all knew he was going to be a big boy. The good news is we don't think his feet have really grown so he has finally grown into them.

Because he is getting plenty to eat and doesn't need the nighttime nutrition, the pediatrician gave us the okay to start weening him from nighttime feedings to work on him sleeping through the night. (Up until then he was eating once or twice a night.) He has done really well so far and makes it from 9 pm when he gets put down for the night until about 4 am. We are able to quickly put him back to sleep and he usually makes it to almost 6 am when it's time to get up for the day.

Owen sleeps on his back but spends time on his tummy. He is not yet able to roll over all the way but can make it onto his side and enjoys sleeping that way sometimes.

Owen on his side cuddling with his stuffed puppy

He is still a very good sleeper and a very happy, easy going baby. He talks all the time and will carry on a conversation with us. Although he can't laugh yet, we are sure he would if he could. He has the biggest smile and when he is happy or thinks something is funny he will get a giant grin. We are so amazed how much he has grown and changed from the chubby checks to the chunky thighs to the blue eyes. We love him more and more every day. Happy Birthday little boy and we are looking forward to see what this next month has to bring!

Bath in the Bathtub

Since Owen liked swimming in his little bathtub so much and since he's gotten so big and long that he doesn't really have room to float around in there anymore, we decided to give him a bath in the tub one night. As we figured, boy did he love it. He kicked and splashed and floated around with the biggest grin ever. The following are some pictures of his bath.
