Owen's Nautical Nursery

Owen's nursery has a nautical theme. Several of the items in the nursery are courtesy of Julia, our fabulous Captain's Cocktail Reception hostess, some are from family, and some were items we had. Photos are a mix of those taken by us and some courtesy of Terri Smith Photography.

As you look into the room you see a sailing painting from Owen's Aunt Sarah. Opposite the doorway is a boat shelf and model ship from Owen's Uncle Paul, his crib from his Grandpa and Grandma P, and a wall hanging sewn by his Grandma M.

Looking into Owen's room.

Wall hanging says "Owen David" in nautical flags.

Boat shelf from Uncle Paul. Sailboat "slipcover" was made to hid the filling cabinet by Anna.

Shelf now has a small "It's A Boy" wagon on it that had flowers in it delivered to the hospital and a small wooden, carved pelican that we purchased on a day trip to Apalachicola (a small, nearby, coastal town) to remember where Owen was born.

These are very small paper ships that were from a game Jed used to play.

Next to the window is a ship's wheel from his Grandpa and Grandma P and a framed photo his Uncle Paul took on the M family sailing trip to the British Virgin Islands in 2008-2009.

Across from the crib is a dresser we purchased for Owen to have and take with him which is currently being used as not only a dresser but also a changing table. Above the dresser is a shelf with a framed Captain's Cocktail Reception invitation, a vintage frame Grandma M found with pictures of Owen's Grandparents, a picture of Jed and Anna and some Cocktail Reception mementos. The sailboat lamp on the dresser is an Amazon.com find.

Shelf is framed by Captain's Cocktail Reception decorations.

Although all the items in the nursery are treasures, quite possibly the most special gift is the amazing compass Jed created for Owen on the ceiling. The north arrow is actually pointing north, the compass we used to set it is on the shelf. It is such a stunning piece and was created with love. Owen loves staring at the compass while laying in his crib or in mom or dad's arms in the rocking chair.

We have moved a rocking chair into the room where we often sit and Owen explores his room. We are still on the hunt for a glass, lighthouse nightlight which I'm sure we'll come across when we least expect it.

Overall, the nursery turned out much better than we ever imagined when we decided on a nautical theme. It is filled with so many special pieces and treasures that remind us of family. Thanks to Terri's pictures on her blog, Owen's room has been used as an example of a nautical theme room on a decorating blog.
