We spent two days in the hospital recovering and learning how to become new parents. The hospital rooms were private rooms for the whole family, including baby, so we got plenty of time to bond with our newest family member.
We are hoping he grows into his feet.
So much goes on during the hospital stay (first photos, social security and birth certificate registration, hearing tests, lactation consultants, nurses checking in, visitors, etc.) that we felt like we got more rest once we got home.
Owen soundly sleeping.
The first night in the hospital was not too bad sleep wise but the second night was torture. Owen had several procedures done on his first day and every time the nurse came and got him for a procedure he was sleeping so needless to say, that night he was terrified to fall asleep. Anna stayed up with him until about 2 am at which point she woke Jed up. Jed took him out of the room to let Anna get some sleep and did laps around the family care unit until 4:30 am. The hospital is very diligent about keep track of babies and ensure no babies "disappear" or go home with people they aren't supposed to, including having tracking devises on the babies and alarms on all the doors. We had guessed about the tracking device but found out about the alarms on accident... As Jed was a walking zombie, he strolled down a side hall and paused to fix his sock. He began moving back out of the hall to be met by our night nurse running down the hall toward him. Turns out he had paused in front of a stairwell door too long and set off the alarms and security was calling. Thankfully all the nurses had seen him out for some time already so knew what he was up to. Despite having one of our longest, roughest nights ever, we have gotten a good laugh out of it ever since.

During the hospital stay, someone stops by to administer a newborn a hearing test. They hook up this devise to their head that measures brainwave activity in response to controlled sounds. It was actually pretty cool but looked like an alien mind reading device hooked to Owen's head.

Overall, the time spent in the hospital was beneficial and the hospital staff were all wonderfully nice and helpful but it was definitely good to be discharged and go home.
Napping on our last afternoon in the hospital.
